Soap Recipe

I am clumsy and I forget about things, A LOT. Recently, I forgot 6oz of breastmilk in my work bag. It sat out for about 3 days until I got ready to go to work again and it was in the bottom of my bag. I felt defeated on an already busy day. One of those days where everything is going wrong that possibly could and everyone is crying, including me! This recipe helps soften the blow and is a great way to use milk that you cannot feed to your baby. The crisp weather is coming here in Minnesota, and everything starts to get dry. When I say this makes your skin soft, I mean it makes it REALLY soft. I am not going to give myself a milk bath, but I will use this soap. I almost look forward to coming home and seeing an oz left in a bottle that was not drank so I can put it in the soap jar…. ALMOST..

If you give it a try or add something else, let me know or show us a picture!

1/2lb of soap (2 sticks if using the one below)

4-6oz room temperature breastmilk

Essential oil of your choice - I use lavender a lot

3tbsp Aloe

  1. Warm the soap up in the microwave. If you are using 2 sticks, it takes about 60 seconds. I usually do this in 30 second increments so it does not burn and then stir the rest of it until it melts.

  2. Add your breastmilk. If it is not room temperature, you can heat it up. If you add it cold, it will solidify the soap base and you will have to start all over.

  3. 5-10 drops of your favorite oil. If you use the soap base I do, it already has a nice scent to it so you may need to add more oil. I also skimp and use cheaper oils and need 15-20 drops to have it really come through.

  4. Add the Aloe. This you can eyeball if you want. If I am being honest, I usually just squirt the bottle out until I think it is enough…

  5. Pour in the molds! My favorite ones are below. One batch will fill all of the mini molds, but it only fills about 3/4 of the bigger one.

  6. Let it sit on the counter or in the fridge to harden. This usually happens in about an hour.

  7. Take them out of the molds and freeze. The milk makes the soap a little bit softer, so I keep these in the freezer and bring them out when I am ready to use them!

A few more tidbits:

I give the little molds to my 3 year old in the bath. He loves playing with the characters. The consistency turns into a lotion when it thaws and you start manipulating it. I put it on my cracked heels and then let it soak in for a little bit before washing it off.

I use the 2lb of shea butter soap found here - https://a.co/d/6KXdKo5
